Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Reto Ziegler says he is honoured to be wanted by Scottish champions Celtic, but feels he deserves the attention due to a fine season at Swiss side FC Sion.

The 31-year-old left-back is out of contract at Sion and as such has a number of clubs chasing his services, with Celtic and Real Betis heading the list.

Ziegler says though that he will be speaking to Sion first as he seeks to hammer out his future.

"That's true [that I have offers from Celtic and Betis], but before I try to have a meeting with these clubs, I will be working with Sion's leaders. In the next two weeks I will know more", the defender told Swiss daily Blick.

Ziegler is honoured that Celtic and Betis are chasing him, however he thinks after putting in a good shift for Sion over the course of the recently concluded season he has more than earned their interest.

"Yes [Celtic and Betis are attractive]. The offers honour me", he said.

"But without wanting to sound snooty, I think I deserve it. I've had a good season."

Ziegler has played in a number of countries over the course of his career, turning out in his native Switzerland, England, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Russia.

He returned to Switzerland with Sion in 2015 and helped the club to a finish of fourth this term, booking a spot in the Europa League.

Basel ran away with the Swiss Super League title and also beat Sion in the Swiss Cup final.
