Young Dutch defender Perr Schuurs made a good impression at Liverpool during a trial period at the club, his father says.

Schuurs has turned heads with his accomplished performances for Dutch side Fortuna Sittard, playing a prominent role despite being just 17 years old.

He has attracted the attention of a whole host of clubs, but Liverpool stole a march on the competition by booking him in for a trial.

The centre-back's father, Lambert, says the stint went well and Steven Gerrard even made a special effort to run the rule over his son.

"Liverpool have shown themselves to be very pleased with how Perr presented himself", Lambert told 1Limburg.

"The club will draw up a report and share that with Fortuna Sittard. That's what we're waiting for now.

"It was a special week", Perr's father explained.

"I spoke with Steven Gerrard, who is now a youth coach.

"He came for a special look at Perr. Of course, that was special.

"But he is keeping very calm and wants to play football."

Lambert admits that a number of clubs are showing interest in his son, though nothing has yet been finalised, and admitted he has yet to hear back from Liverpool over what they might propose.

"But [interest from other clubs] is not concrete yet.

"We also do not know what Liverpool want.

"And then there is Perr and what he wants.

"We know he will not be a ready-to-play player for some time, so he isn't allowed to skip any [development] steps", Lambert added.

Perr made 24 appearances in the Dutch second tier for Fortuna Sittard last season, chipping in with two goals from his defensive position.

The 17-year-old has a further two years to run on his contract with the club.
