Hearts manager Ian Cathro insists that Rangers target Jamie Walker will not leave the club for anything less than his asking price.

The Gers failed with a bid of around £500,000 earlier this week, with the Premiership side confirming that they will not accept anything less that £1m for the player.

The manager insists that Walker is a player with a lot of talent and can go on to play at the highest level. And therefore the fee involved should reflect that, he feels.

"Jamie is one of the most talented players in the country. Depending on how he works, he can go on to play at a very, very high level in the game", Cathro was quoted as saying by STV.

"He will not be leaving here for anything other than a value which reflects that."

The 23-year-old has already turned down an offer to renew his contract, which has just one-year left on it and his manager has more or less resigned himself to the fact a new deal will not be signed.

However, if Walker leaves, Cathro insists that he and his club should not feel like they have lost out on the deserved transfer fee.

"Naturally we want to have him in our team so if there are going to be circumstances which take him away then they have to reflect the level of quality and potential of the player.

"My understanding is there has been nothing of the sort."

Pedro Caixinha's side though are expected to come up with an improved offer in the coming days.
