Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua have made an approach to sign midfielder Samir Nasri from Manchester City this summer.

The Frenchman spent last season on loan at Spanish outfit Sevilla and was an important part of their squad, scoring three goals and providing three assists in all competitions.

Sevilla were interested in signing him on a permanent deal but there are suggestions that the club have opted against taking up the option of signing Nasri due to the financial commitments involved in a proposed deal.

Nasri is believed to be keen to continue in Spain next season too but he could be off to China this summer as according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Manchester City have been approached by a Chinese Super League side for the Frenchman.

It has been claimed that Shanghai Shenhua are interested in snapping up the midfielder in the upcoming window and have held initial talks with Manchester City.

The Chinese outfit are not expected to struggle to match Manchester City’s financial demands or Nasri’s salary requirements and are keen to sign him this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old is prepared to move to China at this point of his career after enjoying his football in Spain last season.

Nasri’s former Manchester City team-mate Carlos Tevez is one of the star players in the Shanghai Shenhua squad.
