Jonny Hayes has revealed that Brendan Rodgers was a big factor in his decision to join Celtic from Aberdeen.

The Bhoys completed the signing of the 29-year-old from their Scottish Premiership rivals on Saturday, with Hayes joining for an undisclosed fee and signing a three-year contract.

As part of the deal for the Republic of Ireland winger, Ryan Christie has moved to Pittodrie on a season-long loan deal.

Hayes is delighted to have made the move to the Scottish champions and was quick to admit that Rodgers played a big part in tempting him to quit Aberdeen.

"Brendan and I go back a long time", Hayes said via his new club's official site.

"I worked under him at the academy at Reading but I hadn’t seen him for a few years until the game at Pittodrie earlier in the season. He’s still the same man.

"He’s brilliant to work for and he looks at every little detail.

"He was a huge factor in wanting to come to Celtic. He’s up there with the best coaches I’ve ever worked for and I’m glad I’ll get to play for him again", Hayes added.

The winger had been linked with a move to Cardiff City, but is playing his football at Celtic on a deal until 2020.

Hayes scored against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final, grabbing Aberdeen's only goal in their 2-1 loss to the Bhoys, as Rodgers' men completed an impressive domestic treble.
