Villarreal are working on a new contract for Alfonso Pedraza, after he landed back at the club following a loan spell at Leeds United in England.

The Yellow Submarine loaned Pedraza to Leeds in the winter transfer window earlier this year and the agreement contained a mandatory purchase option in the event the Whites won promotion to the Premier League, set at €10m.

As Leeds did not manage to win promotion, the clause was not activated, though it remains to be seen if Leeds might return for Pedraza over the summer.

Villarreal however appear to be planning for a long term stay for the winger.

According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, Villarreal are working to increase the length of Pedraza's contract, which has just another year to run.

In addition to increasing the contract length, Villarreal will also look to raise the release clause in the winger's deal.

The Spanish side have not yet decided what to do with Pedraza next season.

While a spot in the first team squad has not been ruled out, Villarreal could look to loan him to another La Liga club.
