Dutch side FC Volendam have announced that young talent Nathangelo Markelo is joining Premier League side Everton.

Ronald Koeman's Toffees are working hard in the transfer market and now the Dutchman is raiding a club in his homeland for the promising defensive talent.

Markelo was scouted by Everton on several occasions, both in action for Volendam and the Netherlands' Under-18s, and the Merseyside giants are convinced of his qualities.

Volendam said in a statement: "FC Volendam and Everton FC have reached agreement on the acquisition of Nathangelo Markelo."

Markelo, who is able to operate in both central defence and as a right-back, has not yet broken through into the Volendam first team, playing instead for the club's Under-19s.

Volendam had been aiming to promote the talent to the first team squad for next season, but now he will continue his career in England.

Just 18 years old, Markelo made 30 appearances in all competitions at youth level for Volendam last season.

He had been under contract with the Dutch club for a further two years.
