Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins does not believe the time is right for Tottenham Hotspur target Alfie Mawson to quit the Liberty Stadium.

Mawson helped the Swans avoid dropping out of the Premier League in the recently concluded season and he has been linked with a switch to Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham.

Other clubs are also expected to be interested in Mawson on the back of last term's displays and Jenkins admits that the defender is someone who is catching the eye.

The Welsh giants have not had firm interest in Mawson yet though and the Swansea chairman does not feel now would be the right time for the former Barnsley man to move on.

"There has been no firm interest, but his profile is being raised, we understand that", Jenkins told BBC Wales Sport.

"But we think he's got a few years left with us to develop his career", he added.

Jenkins also insists that Swansea are looking to make sure they hold onto their best players and make additions ahead of next season, with no asking price being slapped on any of the stars at the Liberty Stadium.

"We aren't putting figures on our players. We see the figures bandied around in the Premier League and they are crazy, but we are part of that.

"We will do our best to add to the team, not take away from it.

"We've had no direct contact from any club, it is pure speculation and we hope it remains so", he added.

Mawson, 23, cost the Swans just £5.5m to snap up from Championship side Barnsley last summer.
