Napoli have offered to include a release clause in a new contract for Manchester City and Newcastle United linked goalkeeper Pepe Reina, in a bid to convince him to put pen to paper.

The experienced Spanish shot-stopper has just a year left to run on his contract at Napoli and his agent has been in talks over an extension.

But no deal has yet been reached as Reina wants a three-year contract and Napoli are offering just a two-year deal, something which has led to a number of sides, including the Premier League pair, monitoring the situation.

Now, according to Italian radio station Radio Crc, Napoli have come up with a new proposal.

The Serie A side are offering to include a release clause valid to certain countries outside Italy and set at between €4m and €5m.

As such, Reina would have the option of jumping ship if he receives a big money proposal from a specified country outside Italy.

There is disagreement over how high the clause should be set though.

Reina's agent does not agree with Napoli's €4m to €5m suggestion and feels it should be set at between €1m and €1.5m.
