Tottenham Hotspur have touched base with the agent of Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino, as uncertainty around Manchester United target Eric Dier’s future at White Hart Lane grows.

Dier is on Manchester United’s radar as a long term replacement for Michael Carrick and it has been suggested that he is Jose Mourinho’s top midfield target this summer.

Manchester United have been quoted a £50m price, but it hasn’t deterred the Red Devils, and though Tottenham want to keep hold of Dier, they are putting in place contingency plans.

And it has been claimed that Spurs have identified Fiorentina midfielder Vecino as a possible replacement for the England midfielder and have made tentative moves to sign him.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the north London club have touched base with the Uruguayan’s agent and have held initial talks over the possibility of signing him.

Manchester United are yet to make any concrete moves for Dier and could expect lengthy negotiations with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who is known for being a tough negotiator.

And Tottenham are expected to make further moves for Vecino should they eventually allow Dier to move to Old Trafford this summer.

Vecino has a contract until 2021 with Fiorentina.
