Newcastle United are in discussions to snap up midfielder Romulo from Italian side Hellas Verona.

The 30-year-old moved to Italy from his native Brazil in 2012 to sign for Fiorentina and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez saw him at close quarters during his time as Napoli boss from 2013 until 2015.

Now Benitez wants to add Romulo to the ranks at St. James' Park as he prepares Newcastle for life back in the Premier League, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is claimed that Newcastle are currently in talks to sign the Brazilian.

He made 39 appearances for Verona in Serie B last season, as the Gialloblu finished second and won promotion to Serie A.
