Claudio Ranieri is an admirer of Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout and has backed a move to take the player back to Nantes.

Former Leicester boss Ranieri has just taken over at Nantes and is assessing his squad ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

Ranieri is being backed by president Waldemar Kita and Veretout, who has just spent the season on loan at Saint-Etienne, is on the agenda.

According to Presse Ocean, Nantes want Veretout and Ranieri is a fan of the Aston Villa player.

The Ligue 1 club want Veretout to arrive on a loan deal, in much the same way he spent the campaign at Saint-Etienne.

However, it is claimed that Aston Villa prefer a permanent sale and are looking for around €8m to sell the 24-year-old.

Veretout came through the youth ranks at Nantes and was snapped up from the club by Aston Villa in the summer of 2015.

However, Aston Villa were relegated at the end of the 2015/16 campaign and the midfielder has been less than keen on plying his trade in the Championship.
