Stefan de Vrij has still not signed a new contract with Lazio, amid Liverpool's interest in snapping him up.

The Serie A side have been working overtime to reach an agreement on a fresh deal for De Vrij, as they look to keep hold of him this summer.

There is a broad agreement over salary, with money not an issue, according to Italian outlet Fantagazzetta.

The issue lies in the valuation of the buy-out clause set to be put in the contract, with De Vrij looking for a clause set at just €15m, while Lazio president Claudio Lotito wants a far higher sum, viewing €15m as an easy escape route for the Netherlands international.

It is claimed that Liverpool are watching developments closely and could launch an offensive for De Vrij before an agreement over a new contract is reached.

Liverpool had been looking to sign De Vrij's countryman Virgil van Dijk, but were forced to abandon their pursuit of the Dutchman after Southampton complained to the Premier League over an unauthorised approach.

As such the Reds are still in the market to bring in another central defender over the summer transfer window.

De Vrij, 25, only has a year left to run on his contract at Lazio.
