Newcastle United are interested in young Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby and could sumbit an offer in the coming days.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez wants to strengthen his attacking options and the Spaniard has been left impressed with what he has seen from the 20-year-old.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Newcastle are keen to add Diakhaby to the ranks at St. James' Park and could well slap in an offer for the striker next week.

Diakhaby was eased into his first senior season with Rennes last term, making his appearances mostly from the bench and accumulating 705 minutes of action in Ligue 1.

Across all competitions the striker made 29 appearances and scored five goals.
