Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Barcelona youngster Carles Alena, who is also of interest to Newcastle United, and have offered to include him in the first team squad to swing the deal.

Barcelona have been open about wanting to convince the midfielder to extend his contract at the Camp Nou, but so far Alena has not signed up as he wants to see a clear plan for his future.

Alena did spend time with the first team squad on the training pitch under Luis Enrique, but has vowed to think about his future over the coming days and come to a decision.

According to Spanish daily AS, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is lurking and has made clear that he wishes to take the midfielder to north London.

Pochettino has let it be known that if the 19-year-old continues his career with Tottenham, he will be included in the first team from the off.

The Barcelona youngster also has interest from Newcastle, where Spanish boss Rafael Benitez is a firm fan.

Despite Alena being under contract for a further year with Barcelona, he can be snapped up for a release clause of just €3m – if reportedly the deal is done before the end of the month.

Alena has made four appearances for Barcelona's senior team.
