Claudio Ranieri is keen to raid former club Leicester City for midfielder Nampalys Mendy.

The Italian has just been appointed as the new coach of Ligue 1 side Nantes and is looking to strengthen his squad over the summer, backed by club president Waldemar Kita.

Leicester are keen on Mendy and despite the 25-year-old earning a good salary at the King Power Stadium have not been put off, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

Ranieri knows the midfielder well and feels he would be a good addition to the ranks at Nantes.

Ranieri signed Mendy for Leicester from French club Nice in the summer of 2016.

And injury blighted his first campaign in English football with the Foxes and Mendy managed just nine appearances across all competitions with the Premier League club.

Leicester have the midfielder under contract until 2020 and it remains to be seen how the Foxes might react to a bid from Ranieri to take Mendy to Nantes this summer.
