Benfica and Newcastle United remain locked in talks over Greek midfielder Andreas Samaris. 

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is keen to add Samaris to the ranks at St. James' Park and the player is ready to move on as he looks to play on a week in, week out basis.




Talks are continuing between the two parties, but according to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo, Newcastle insist they will not pay more than €15m for Samaris.

Benfica meanwhiule are not budging from their asking price of €20m.
 


Nevertheless, there remains confidence that an agreement between the two clubs can be reached for Samaris, whose release clause is a whopping €45m.

Samaris cost Benfica €10m to sign and president Luis Felipe Vieira feels that this summer is the time for the club to recover the investment they have made in the Greece international schemer.

However, Benfica are working in the event no agreement can be reached with Newcastle and, with Samaris' contract having just two years to run, are putting a fresh deal on the table for the midfielder.

Samaris has won the league title with Benfica in every season he has been at the club.
