Leeds United are making the running for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald after Claudio Ranieri's arrival at Nantes saw the French club cool their interest.

Nantes have been keen on signing Wiedwald, who is ready to exit the Bundesliga in search of a new challenge, but Ranieri's arrival means the French club's situation has changed, according to German magazine Kicker.

It remains to be seen if Nantes will re-enter the race for the shot-stopper, or whether he will have moved on by the time the Ligue 1 outfit assess what they need under Ranieri.

As such, Leeds are leading the race for his signature at present and Werder Bremen are willing to sell for just €500,000.

Greek giants PAOK Salonika have also made an approach for Wiedwald, but their offer was not looked upon favourably.

The German goalkeeper has been linked with a whole host of other English clubs, however it is Leeds who appear in pole position.

Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has confirmed he is to speak to a club about Wiedwald and insists the Bundesliga outfit want to reach an agreement which suits the goalkeeper, the club, and the interested side.

"We are anxious to find a reasonable solution for all three parties", he said.
