Everton have beaten Arsenal and West Ham United to the signature of Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru.

Onyekuru has been linked with both the Gunners and the Hammers, while Celtic had a bid of €1m turned down by Belgian side Eupen for the forward in the winter transfer window.

Everton though have come out of nowhere to secure a deal and after speaking with Onyekuru's agent and giving the player a medical on Monday, the agreement has been quickly reached.

According to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, Everton have snapped Onyekuru up from Eupen and instantly sent him on loan back to Belgium with Anderlecht.

Anderlecht had been in the race for the forward, but were muscled out of the race for his permanent signature by wealthy Premier League clubs.

Everton will now allow Onyekuru to continue his development in the familiar environment of the Belgian top flight.

He shone with Belgian minnows Eupen last term, with his goals securing the club's status in the country's Jupiler Pro League.

Onyekuru will bid to kick on with his development before an eventual move to Goodison Park.
