Leeds United have given Giuseppe Bellusci further time off in which to find a new club, his agent has revealed.

Bellusci spent last term on loan at Empoli in Serie A, but was unable to help the club avoid relegation to the Italian second tier.

Empoli's relegation means they will not keep Bellusci, but Leeds remain keen to offload the centre-back, who has a further year left on his contract at the club.

The player's agent confirmed to BBC Radio Leeds that his client has been given extra time off to find a club before "he returns to Leeds next week."

Leeds' players reported back for the start of pre-season training on Monday, meeting up with new head coach Thomas Christiansen and a completely new backroom staff.

Despite Christiansen being yet to work with Bellusci, it appears Leeds have still decided the defender has no future at Elland Road and are keen for him to move on.

The Italian is attracting interest from Serie A new boys Benevento and Cagliari, who are looking for a replacement for Bruno Alves.
