Liverpool linked Stefan de Vrij has decided to see out his contract at Lazio before departing on a free transfer next summer.

The Netherlands international has just a year left to run on his contract with Lazio and the club have been attempting to convince him to pen an extension, with president Claudio Lotito now proposing a deal worth €2m per year and containing a release clause set at €30m.

Lotito is facing a big battle to persuade De Vrij to sign as, according to Italian outlet Fantagazzetta, the Dutch defender has signalled his intention to see out the final year of his deal and then leave next summer.

Liverpool have been linked with making a move for De Vrij and if the defender does not pen a new deal Lazio are sure to be more willing sellers.

However, Lazio are not ready to let De Vrij walk away for a small fee.

Valencia have been showing interest and are prepared to pay €15m for De Vrij, a sum too low for Lazio.

Last season De Vrij made 31 appearances across all competitions for Lazio as the capital club finished in fifth spot in Serie A, booking a spot in the Europa League.
