Newcastle United linked midfielder Maxime Gonalons has agreed personal terms over a contract with Roma, but the Serie A giants are yet to reach an agreement with Lyon.

With only a year left on his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit, the defensive midfielder is on his way out of the club and has given his personal approval to a transfer to Italy.

Newcastle have been interested in taking him to England during the summer transfer window, but it seems Roma have managed to convince him to move to the Stadio Olimpico.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, the 28-year-old has agreed the terms of a four-year contract with Roma and is waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement over a fee.

Lyon have already rejected an initial bid from the Serie A giants, but Roma are expected to table a fresh offer soon and the two clubs are expected to work out a deal in the next few days.
