Roma have been in talks with Liverpool over signing Alberto Moreno, but have also identified alternative targets in the event they cannot agree a deal.

Jurgen Klopp preferred midfielder James Milner to Moreno for the left-back role last season and the Spaniard is available, with the Reds having slapped a £15m asking price on his head.

The Reds have played hardball in negotiations for Moreno’s departure and have already rejected an £11m bid from Serie A giants Napoli, who are in the market for a full-back.

While it is unclear whether Napoli will return to the negotiating table for Moreno again, the Spaniard still has other takers in Italy and Roma are interested in signing him this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma discussed the possibility of signing him when they were in talks with the Reds for Mohamed Salah and the Giallorossi have maintained their interest.

Liverpool are prepared to let the Spaniard leave this summer but want £15m and it is unclear whether Roma are prepared to shell out such a figure for the full-back this summer.

The Serie A giants are aware of the difficulties in their pursuit of Moreno and have also lined up alternative targets in Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt and Celta Vigo’s Jonathan Castro.
