Lille are set to see off interest from Newcastle United and West Ham to land Kevin Malcuit.

The Saint-Etienne defender impressed last season and especially used Les Verts' Europa League campaign, which included a tie against Manchester United, to show his mettle.

He was even linked with Manchester United earlier this year on the back of his display against the Red Devils, but it is Newcastle and West Ham who have been leading the English chase amid suggestions the pair are willing to pay €11m for the 25-year-old.

But Malcuit is sold on the idea of working under Lille coach Marcelo Bielsa as he is convinced the legendary Argentine can take his game to the next level.

He is now set to get his wish as, according to France Bleu, Lille are poised to take Malcuit to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

It is claimed Lille will pay around €9m to do the deal for the right-back.

Malcuit came through the youth ranks at Monaco, but joined minnows Frejus Saint-Raphael for regular first team football.

He signed for Niort in 2014 and was quickly noticed by Saint-Etienne, who snapped him up the following year.
