Atletico Madrid are yet to agree a contract with Diego Costa or reach an agreement over a fee with Chelsea for the striker.

Antonio Conte has told Costa that he is not in his plans going forward at Chelsea and the striker is only willing to leave the Premier League champions for a transfer back to Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone has been trying to re-sign his former player since last year and despite Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, they are becoming more confident of landing the Spain international.

However, very little of note has happened in the transfer saga yet as Atletico Madrid are yet to make any concrete move to take Costa back to the Spanish capital this summer.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, the club have not reached an agreement over a fee with Chelsea or thrashed out personal terms with the player himself to signal their intent to sign him.

Los Rojiblancos are prepared to bide their time in order to land Costa as Conte has already played his hand by informing striker that he is prepared to sell him this summer.

The striker is scheduled to join Chelsea for pre-season training next week and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can reach an agreement before his return to the Blues’ base.

Costa will be forced to wait until January before playing for Atletico Madrid again if he joins them as the club are barred from registering new players until the winter window.
