Middlesbrough are prepared to ship out Leeds United target Rudy Gestede before the end of the transfer window in order to take his huge wages off their books.

The 28-year-old striker is on Leeds’ radar as a potential replacement for Chris Wood, who left Elland Road on Monday for Premier League outfit Burnley for a transfer fee of £15m.

Boro have already rejected a bid worth £6m from Leeds for Gestede, but the Whites could get their man if they push to sign him before the window slams shut next week.

According to Radio Yorkshire, Middlesbrough are keen to sell the striker before next week as the club are looking to get his salary off their wage bill before the window slams shut.

Boro are aware that Leeds have funds to burn after selling Wood and Liam Bridcutt and are keen to get the possible deal if they eventually sell Gestede to the Whites.

Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen has also indicated that the club could look to bring in someone from outside England, but Gestede is still believed to be a target.

However, it remains to be seen whether Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, who has promised that the funds from sales will be reinvested in the squad, is prepared to push the boat out for the Middlesbrough striker or look for other options.
