Negotiations over signing Monaco winger Thomas Lemar have been progressing slower than Arsenal had previously anticipated, it has been claimed.

Arsene Wenger more or less gave up hope of signing the 21-year-old winger last week when he insisted that Monaco won’t be allowing the Frenchman to leave this summer.

But Liverpool showed up with a bid earlier this week and it emerged that Monaco could be open to talks over selling the player. Now Arsenal have made a deadline day move to sign the Frenchman.

Arsenal have reportedly slapped in a €100m bid for the player and there is even talk that they have agreed a deal with Monaco, with the final decision resting on the player.

However, it seems the deal is not moving along as quickly as Arsenal would have hoped and according to the Press Association, talks over signing Lemar from Monaco have been progressing at a slow pace.

With just hours left in the window, Arsenal are racing against time to get the deal over the line and will need to accelerate their efforts soon if they want Lemar at the Emirates.

There are also suggestions that a failed move for Lemar could also scupper Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester City as Wenger would not want to sell him without signing a replacement.

Lemar is also set to take the pitch for France this evening, to further complicate the deal.
