Everton have made a late play to sign Napoli defender Ivan Strinic, who has appeared set to join Sampdoria.

The Toffees are still active in the transfer market on deadline day as Ronald Koeman looks to boost his options – and the Dutchman wants full-back Strinic.

According to BBC World Service, Everton have put in a bid for the Croatia international, but no more details have emerged so far.

Strinic, 30, was signed by Napoli from Ukrainian side Dnipro in 2015, following a spell with Crostian giants Hajduk Split.

Napoli have seemed set to sell Strinic to Serie A rivals Sampdoria and the full-back has been tipped to make the move along with team-mate Duvan Zapata.

It remains to be seen if Everton can beat Sampdoria to Strinic.

The defender has been capped by Croatia at international level, after representing the country in the youth ranks.

Strinic struggled for playing time with Napoli last term and only managed a total of 15 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A club.
