Liverpool are not expected to sign any more players before this evening's transfer deadline, which ends their pursuit of Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.

The Reds made an aggressive move to sign the Frenchman earlier this week when they rang up Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev on Monday morning with an €80m offer.

However, talks between the two clubs didn’t progress as planned and Monaco put up the player’s asking price, forcing Liverpool to do a rethink on their pursuit.

And according to the Press Association, the club are not plotting to bring in any more players, signaling that they are no longer chasing the Monaco winger on deadline day.

Arsenal re-entered the chase for Lemar earlier today and have slapped in a €100m offer, with suggestions that Monaco have accepted the bid from the Gunners.

But Arsenal’s interest is irrelevant for the Reds, who have not feel encouraged to return to the negotiating table for Lemar despite the Gunners showing that Monaco could be prepared to sell the player.

With Liverpool not set to sign any more players, it also ends the saga revolving Virgil van Dijk who has been keen to join the Reds, but Southampton have been steadfastly blocking any transfer.
