Liverpool are unlikely to sign Virgil van Dijk and Thomas Lemar before the end of the transfer window tonight, according to TalkSport reporter Ian Abrahams.

Van Dijk has been a Liverpool target all summer and despite the Reds tendering a public apology to Southampton for unsettling the defender, the Dutchman has remained on their radar.

However, Southampton have continued to maintain that the defender is not for sale and the club hierarchy have made public statements, insisting that he remains part of their plans this season.

The Saints are yet to receive a single offer for Van Dijk on deadline day and it has been claimed that it is highly unlikely the Reds will be able to sign the Dutchman this summer.

Their pursuit of Monaco winger Lemar has been relatively fresh when they put in their first bid of around €80m on Monday morning and later offered Divock Origi on loan to improve their offer.

However, the Ligue 1 champions are not interested in the Belgian and are unlikely to allow the French winger leave this late in the window for an offer less than the €100m mark.

And with France playing a World Cup qualifier against Netherlands this evening with Lemar in their squad, it is highly unlikely the Reds will have time to complete all the details of a deal to sign Lemar even if they agree a fee with Monaco at some point today.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s arrival from Arsenal is expected to bit the last bit of major business for Liverpool today.
