Talk that Sunderland target Ross McCormack could be on his way to Rangers has been played down.

Aston Villa have made the out-of-favour striker available on loan and are open to seeing him move on before the transfer window slams shut this evening.

Sunderland have been repeatedly linked with McCormack, who is well known to Black Cats manager Simon Grayson, but of late Rangers have been mooted as a possible option.

The Gers are still in the market to make additions and McCormack could fit the bill for Pedro Caixinha.

But according to Press Association Scotland, there is little to the speculation that Rangers want McCormack.
