Tottenham Hotspur's swoop for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes is unclear, according to Sky Sports News HQ

Spurs want to snap up the Portugal international midfielder and have been in talks to take him to north London before the window slams shut.

The midfielder is viewed as the replacement target for Ross Barkley, who now appears to be staying at Everton.

Tottenham want to do the deal and are open to signing Gomes, meaning the ball is very much in Barcelona's court as the clock ticks down on the transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have brought in Serge Aurier to reinforce their defensive options and Fernando Llorente is expected to join to strengthen the attack.

But Pochettino would also like to see Gomes added to his options.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona are having second thoughts about letting Gomes leave.

The 24-year-old has won 25 caps for Portugal and moved to Barcelona last term from Valencia.
