Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he does not want to enter the debate on where exactly Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play, insisting that he is happier to talk about the quality the new signing will offer to the team.

The Reds confirmed the deal on deadline day, signing him from Premier League rivals Arsenal for a fee in the region of £35m. The young England international put pen-to-paper to a five-year contract worth £120,000 a week at Anfield.

The former Southampton man had rejected a move to Chelsea after his club agreed a £40m fee with the Pensioners, expressing his desire to perform a central midfielder's role rather than a wing-back, where he believed Chelsea had planned to use him.

The Liverpool manager though would not go further into the issue of where Oxlade-Chamberlain will be used, insisting that he would rather speak about the quality that the 24-year-old will offer to his team.

“I hear a lot of talk about positions but let's talk about the player; he is someone with really good abilities who always gives everything for his team. A player that is positive and willing to take risks to try and make positive things happen", Klopp told his club's official site.

“He may still be young but he has a lot of experience in the Premier League, Champions League and for his country.

"Already he is a very, very good player and I think he has the mentality and desire to get even better – and that excites me.

“This is someone making a tough decision to leave one great club and come to another great club and I think he had many options, so to get him means I am delighted.

“He didn't make an easy decision but I think he made a great one to go on this journey with this squad of talented boys and our great supporters.

"I welcome him to the Liverpool family.”
