Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies feels the fact Patrick Roberts wanted to come back to the club speaks volumes about the job the Bhoys did with him during his prior spell at Celtic Park.

The 20-year-old spent the entire stretch of last season on loan at Celtic Park, having joined the club on a 18-month loan from Manchester City.

Roberts played a crucial role in helping the Bhoys win the treble last season, taking part in a total of 47 matches, scoring eleven goals and setting up 19 more for his team-mates.

Now Roberts is back and Davies feels that the winger wanting to return shows how much he enjoyed his time at Celtic Park.

“We are absolutely delighted that Patrick has come back to join us”, Davies told his club's official website.

“It was the right thing for him initially to go back to Manchester City and see how things went there and take his time to decide what would be best for him.

“It’s a credit to the club for bringing him back in and the conditions he worked in when he was here made him feel this was a place for him to come back, so this is a credit for everyone who has been part of that."

Davies also feels that Celtic have once again landed a superb player who offers an extra attacking option.

“We are excited to have him.

"He’s an extremely talented footballer and someone who people enjoy to watch play football. He is a fantastic dribbler, a fantastic creator of chances and a good goalscorer as well.

"He gives us a great option in attack and we saw last year with the goal he scored against Manchester City that he can do it at the highest level as well. We are delighted to have him back."

Celtic will be looking for Roberts to help make the difference in the Champions League group stage.
