West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur held an interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes during the dying hours of transfer deadline day, but no move happened in time.

Barcelona wanted to offload Gomes, who is not in coach Ernesto Valverde's plans, and instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to find a new club for his client.

Both West Ham and Tottenham started to show interest in Gomes, according to Spanish daily Marca, but no deal was able to be done before the window closed.

Gomes could still move to a league whose transfer window remains open, such as Portugal or Turkey, but Barcelona would take a financial hit.

The Portugal international could stay at the Camp Nou and fight for his place, but a move away may be on the cards for January.

Gomes was only signed by Barcelona from Valencia last summer, but struggled to make an impact with the Catalans.

He cost Barcelona a fee of €35m, plus a further €20m in potential add-ons, and his debut came in the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla.
