Liverpool were prepared to let Philippe Coutinho leave the club in the January transfer window, but Barcelona refused to enter into such an agreement.

Barcelona made a final offer of a fee which could have touched €160m based on performances based bonuses, but Liverpool were unwilling to lose Coutinho during the summer transfer window.

Coutinho slapped in a transfer request and is yet to play for the Reds this season due to a presumed back injury, but featured and scored for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier earlier this week.

With the Brazilian pushing for a transfer, Barcelona made one final attempt on Spain's deadline day on Friday to reach an agreement with Liverpool, but according to Mundo Deportivo, they backed out because of the conditions laid down by the Reds.
