Preston North End manager Alex Neil has no complaints over the attitude and commitment shown by Jordan Hugill on the training pitch following intense speculation over his future towards the end of the transfer window.

Hugill’s future at Preston came under the scanner last week when there were a number of clubs, including Birmingham City, Wolves and Reading, who were chasing his signature towards the final days of the transfer scrap.

Sunderland and even Leeds United were linked with having an interest in Hugill, but Preston put their foot down and made sure that the 25-year-old striker didn’t leave the club despite him submitting a transfer request.

He has already netted three goals for Preston this season and is expected to be in the team when they take on Barnsley at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

With the speculation over his future last week, there were doubts over what sort of frame of mind he would be in ahead of the return of the league season after the international break.

But Neil insisted that Hugill has been a top notch professional and he has no complaints over the attitude and work ethic shown by the striker this season.

The Preston boss said in a press conference: “Jordan has trained really well.

“He's fully focused on what he is doing here and he's a great lad."

Hugill has entered the last year of his contract at Preston and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with any club in January.
