Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Chelsea and Manchester City linked defender Toby Alderweireld wants to continue at Tottenham Hotspur despite his recent contract tussle.

With murmurs of troubles over a new contract, the defender was linked with a move to Inter Milan in the summer, but Tottenham managed to hold on to Alderweireld.

However, his discontent has not gone away and there are suggestions that he is stalling negotiations over a new deal as the Belgian wants Tottenham to make him one of their top earners alongside club captain Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.

The tussle between the club and the player has led to speculation over possible new destinations for Alderweireld, with Chelsea and Manchester City believed to be keeping close tabs on the situation in north London.

However, Pochettino stressed that the defender is keen to stay at Tottenham as it does not make any sense for him to leave Spurs in the near future.
