Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed that there were no offers from Manchester United for Gareth Bale, but he has not ruled out selling the Welshman in the near future.

Injuries and form meant Bale lost his place in the starting eleven last season and with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to return following serving his suspension, the winger is expected to make way for the Portuguese in Zinedine Zidane’s team.

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho clearly stating his interest in signing the winger if he was made available.

However, Bale was insistent on not leaving the European champions and Perez also revealed that despite Mourinho’s public utterances, Manchester United never made a bid.

The Real Madrid president told Cadena SER when asked about Bale: “He is one of the best players and we are happy that he is in the squad.

“There were no offers.

"Mourinho played the situation nicely but no offer arrived.”

However, the Real Madrid supremo will not explicitly rule out the possibility of selling the Welshman in the near future, insisting that it is difficult to predict the future.

Asked if Bale is untouchable in the Real Madrid squad, Perez said: “Un-transferable are those who are at Madrid for a year. My idea after Cardiff was not to touch the squad.”

When pressed further to clarify Bale’s future, he said: “The transfer window ended on 31st August and he is still with us. Are you going to continue for life in your present club? That is not known.”
