Arsenal outcast Mathieu Debuchy has insisted that he never had conversations with Marseille during the summer transfer window.

The Frenchman was expected to leave Arsenal this summer after years of stagnation and was linked with a move back to France to rekindle his career in his homeland.

Nice were interested in signing him and there was also talk of his former Lille coach Rudi Garcia wanting to take him to Marseille during the recently concluded transfer window.

However, Debuchy stressed that there were no communications between his representatives and Marseille over a transfer to the Ligue 1 giants.

He insisted that if Garcia wanted him, he would have called him up to discuss a proposed move to Marseille.

The 32-year-old told L’Equipe: “I didn’t have any contact with Marseille.

“The coach knows me very well, if he wanted me to join, he would have called me.”

Debuchy remains an Arsenal player despite the club and the player wanting to go their separate ways over recent transfer windows.

He still has close to two years left on his contract with Arsenal.
