Harry Kane has dubbed Tottenham Hotspur's 3-1 Champions League group stage win over Borussia Dortmund "massive", stressing that his side came up with a performance of experience at Wembley.

Tottenham started quickly at Wembley and took the lead with a superb goal after just four minutes.

Heung-Min Son was released on the left hand side and moved into the area, then wrong-footing the Dortmund goalkeeper who had expected a cross, as he lashed his effort into the roof of the net.

But Dortmund's heads did not go down and they were level barely seven minutes later after Andriy Yarmolenko hit a neat, curling shot with his left foot which flew past Hugo Lloris and into the top corner of the net.

It was frantic stuff at Wembley and fans did not have to wait long for a third goal as Spurs re-took the lead in the 15th minute, Kane cutting in from the left and making no mistake with a pin-point shot.

Despite Tottenham leading, Dortmund were dominating possession and had a goal disallowed just before half time when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was flagged for offside, meaning Christian Pulisic's effort did not count.

Spurs had the chance of a third early in the second half after Christian Eriksen picked out Kane, but he hit his shot over the bar, while Aubameyang then had a goal ruled out for offside.

Kane did score Spurs' third though, striking after 60 minutes with Eriksen again playing him in.

Tottenham were heading for victory, but suffered a blow just before full time when Jan Vertonghen was sent off for swinging his arm into Mario Gotze's face.

Spurs had the win though and Kane was delighted, telling BT Sport: "It's a massive win, nights like this at Wembley, we have to take advantage of it.

"Last season our downfall was the games at home. It was a more experienced performance from us tonight.

"In the Champions League you have to be smart.

"You can't always press teams on a big pitch, we took advantage on the counter-attack and exploited the space they left in behind", the striker added.
