Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane admits that the team need to perform on the big stage of the Champions League to develop into one of the elite sides in Europe.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were knocked out of the Champions League group stage last season and didn’t progress in the Europe League beyond the round of 32.

Tottenham have again been placed in a tough group, including Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and defending European champions Real Madrid, but Kane feels Spurs can’t feel sorry about themselves at the high table of European football.

He believes if Tottenham have legitimate aspirations of developing into a European force they will have to perform against the biggest teams and should be looking forward to playing in big games in the Champions League.

Kane told the club’s official website: “If we want to be seen as one of the best teams in Europe we have to perform on the big stage and the Champions League definitely is that.
