Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is baffled that Jurgen Klopp does not believe that the defence is the problem area of his side.

The Reds defenders again came under attack on Wednesday night when costly mistakes led to Sevilla earning a point from a 2-2 draw at Anfield despite Liverpool creating the bulk of the chances in the Champions League game.

The defence also collapsed at the weekend against Manchester City after Liverpool went down to ten men and Pep Guardiola’s side ripped Klopp’s team apart in a 5-0 win.

Klopp has been insisting that his side’s backline is not as huge an issue as it has been made out to be, but Carragher says that the Liverpool manager’s words baffle him.

He believes the Liverpool manager should have signed a centre-back in the summer as it is more than obvious that the Reds are not able to cope.

Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster Viaset, the former Liverpool defender said: “It worries me and it has been [a worry] for two years with Klopp.

“It is still a big problem for Liverpool.

"If you look at what Klopp should have done in the summer, the answer is simple – he should have bought a centre-back.

“He doesn’t seem to think that it is a problem, but it is obvious.”

Liverpool have already conceded 13 goals in all competitions within the first month of the season.
