Tottenham Hotspur's hopes of doing a deal for Isco in the near future have been dealt a blow with the news the midfielder has put pen-to-paper to a new five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and thus is scheduled to remain with Real Madrid until 2022.

The Spaniard had reportedly been discontent with his situation at the club last term, with coach Zinedine Zidane using him mainly on a substitute basis in the Champions League.

That had prompted speculation about him seeking a move away, with the Lilywhites showing an interest in securing the services of the player.

Isco though himself stressed his desire to stay put previously and now his signing of a new deal will put an end to further speculation about him being linked with any move away from Spain in the near future.

"Real Madrid and Isco have agreed to extend the player's contract, which will see him remain at the club until the 30th June 2022", a statement on the club's official website revealed.
