Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists there is no problem with the quality of his defenders and he has not been able to find any players available who can improve his options.

A new season has seen familiar defensive woes rear their head for Liverpool with the Reds conceding three goals on the opening day away at Watford, while in midweek two mistakes meant Klopp's men could only draw 2-2 at home against Sevilla in the Champions League.

There have also been questions raised over why Liverpool crumbled to a 5-0 defeat away at Manchester City last weekend, with the Reds unable to be compact and make things difficult for the hosts when reduced to ten men.

Liverpool were linked with a swoop for Virgil van Dijk in the summer, but the centre-back did not arrive and Klopp has Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan as his main central defensive options; he has also restored the often criticised Alberto Moreno to left-back.

He chose not to move for other targets, or to add to his goalkeeping options, and Klopp is clear that there is no issue with the quality of his defenders.

The German, who has now had four transfer windows to bring in players, says he simply cannot find better quality options who are available.

"Our fault is that with some things we give you the opportunity to talk about it", he told a press conference.

"It's a lack of concentration I think and everyone who ever played football missed a ball in whatever situation and for a defender it's like for a goalkeeper, sometimes you can have a world-class game, but in the wrong moment you do something like this and it's a goal.

"That's the problem for all defenders, but it's not a quality thing.

"Everybody conceded goals so far and we cannot take out the five goals [conceded at Manchester] City, but if we did do it then we had a lot of games with decent defensive performances."

And Klopp insisted there is "no real quality issue" with his defenders.

"If there had been a quality problem and if there had been a solution out there then we would have done it.

"If there is no solution, if there is nobody and if there is no real quality issue then you have to work on it, and that's what we do", the German added.
