Ex-Liverpool left-back Steve Staunton says he has been impressed by new Reds left-back Andrew Robertson.

The Merseyside giants swooped to snap up the Scot from Hull City in the summer transfer window and he is now competing with Alberto Moreno for the left-back slot at Anfield.

Of late manager Jurgen Klopp has preferred Moreno, but on Saturday afternoon handed Robertson a run out against Burnley at Anfield in a Premier League match which ended 1-1.

Staunton, a former Liverpool left-back, is a fan of Robertson and admits he was on his radar when he was plying his trade at Hull.

"I heard he was probably man of the match against Crystal Palace in the other game he played", Staunton said on LFC TV.

"I was very impressed with him.

"I liked him when he was at Hull, I thought he was a good signing for Liverpool.

"I don't know why he hasn't been in the team."

Robertson will be hoping to be handed another start by Klopp in midweek when Liverpool travel to the King Power Stadium to play Leicester City in the EFL Cup.

A former Celtic and Queen's Park youngster, Robertson has won 17 caps at senior level for Scotland.
