Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal needed their hard-fought draw against Chelsea, after continually crumbling against top four rivals in the Premier League.

The Gunners were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool earlier this season to continue their run of poor results when coming up against sides considered rivals at the top of the league table.

But Arsenal dug in at Stamford Bridge and were good value for their point in the 0-0 draw.

It was an even encounter with Arsenal enjoying 49 per cent possession and eleven shots at goal, while Chelsea had David Luiz sent off late on for a poor tackle on Sead Kolasinac.

Ramsey was pleased to see Arsenal stop the rot at Stamford Bridge and believes they could even have taken all three points given the chances they created against the champions.

"We needed that against a top team", Ramsey said on Sky Sports.

"In recent years we have struggled here but we are able to compete against the best.

"We showed that we can create chances and on another day we my have nicked that.

"We needed that after the Liverpool game.

"We played in their half, higher up. We wanted to get a result and we got one.

"We are in a good place, we just have to build on it", the Wales midfielder added.

Arsenal now sit in 12th spot in the Premier League table with seven points from their opening five matches, while Chelsea are third with ten points from five games.
