Noel Whelan believes that if Leeds United can drill consistency into Hadi Sacko then they will have a superb player on their hands.

Sacko joined Leeds on loan last summer from Sporting Lisbon and the Whites made his move permanent this summer, opting to keep the French winger.

He has been criticised for a poor final ball as well as a lack of composure, but Sacko kept a cool head on Tuesday night when he came off the bench to score in the EFL Cup against Burnley; Leeds eventually won on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Whelan noted that Sacko terrorised former Leeds star Charlie Taylor when he came on.

He said on BBC Radio Leeds: "He came on and as soon as he got the ball he took on Charlie Taylor.

"He didn't just do him once, he did him twice in about five minutes and got himself to the byline and put in a cross."

And Whelan thinks Sacko just needs to show consistency for Leeds' investment in the winger to be thoroughly worthwhile.

"All we need to do is get a little bit more consistency out of this kid and we've got a great player on our hands."

Sacko has struggled for regular game time under head coach Thomas Christiansen this season and it remains to be seen if his outing at Burnley has changed the Dane's team selection plans for this weekend's clash against Ipswich Town at Elland Road.
