Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson feels that it is not out of his side’s reach to claim a positive result against Arsenal in the EFL Cup tonight.

It will be an uphill task for Rovers, who are currently 19th in the League One table with just six points from eight outings, to beat the Premier League giants at the Emirates Stadium.

But Ferguson insisted that Doncaster are capable of causing a shock at Arsenal, with the 45-year-old explaining that his side are not going to north London for a night out.

“Stranger things have happened in these competitions, us going there and winning the game would be a shock but that’s what we are going to try and do, we are not going there for a night out”, Ferguson was quoted as saying by the club’s official site.

“We are going there to try and get a result, of course it is going to be difficult but it is not out of our reach, and hopefully if the result is right it would give my players the belief for the rest of the season."

Ferguson, who has been in charge of Doncaster since October 2015, went on to say that he is relishing the prospect of managing against Arsene Wenger.

“Arsene Wenger is a fantastic manager and to do it at the top level of the game for so long is incredible and I have the upmost respect for him, I am looking forward to managing against him”, he said.

Big clubs often tend to field their fringe players in cup games against lower tier opponents and Arsenal could do the same against Doncaster.

But Ferguson wants Arsenal to field their best players so that his side receive a chance to test themselves against some of Europe’s top footballers.

“I want and certainly the players want to come up against the best players that Arsenal have, it’s a chance for us to test ourselves against some of the best players in Europe”, he continued.

“We have to make sure that we go there and put on a performance for the fans, we will try and stay in the game for as long as we can, but we have to appreciate that we are coming up against, no matter what team it is, a very good one.

“Communication will be vital for us, we have to make sure that when we have got that ball, we are good with it and cause them problems, but we will have to patient.”
