Neil Redfearn has insisted that Mateusz Klich’s showing against Burnley on Tuesday night is the best central midfield performance he has seen from a Leeds United midfielder this season.

Leeds signed the Pole from FC Twente in the summer, but the 27-year-old has so far struggled to carve out a niche for himself in Thomas Christiansen’s squad, making just two substitute appearances in the league, as he saw his start at the club hampered by injury.

He has been more of a regular feature in the EFL Cup and was in his element against Burnley on Tuesday night, when Leeds knocked the Premier League side out of the competition in the third round.

Redfearn was delighted with the all round performance of the Pole in the second half against Burnley and feels it is the best he has seen a Leeds midfielder play so far this season.

The former Leeds boss said on Radio Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Football Show: “Klich had a really good game.

“He looked like an international footballer in the second half for me.

"His movements, his positional play, his energy, he got about people, he got his foot in, he was aggressive and it was like the penny dropped for him.

“That was as good a central midfield performance I have seen from any Leeds midfielder this season.”

Klich will be hoping to earn a place in the starting line-up against Ipswich on Saturday after his midweek performance.
